Education Foundation

For many years, the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO) conducted programs that focused on educating the public about the Ohio River, one of the country’s great natural resources. In an effort to provide additional support for its educational activities, the Commission formed a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational foundation in 2004. The Foundation is an adjunct but separate non-profit organization that provides a mechanism to develop, manage, and raise funds for educational and public awareness programs.

educationFoundationThe first program developed by the Foundation is the River Education Center. This floating science classroom is housed on a historic paddle wheeler, the PA Denny. Students board the vessel and experience a day-long voyage while learning about water quality, river history, and river basin management.

The Educational Foundation continues to improve existing programs and develop new programs to reach a broader audience.
