STORET (short for STOrage and RETreival) is US EPA’s repository for water quality, biological, and physical data and is used by state environmental agencies, EPA and other federal agencies, universities, private citizens and many others.

Algae Samples are collected twice per month (March-November) from seven locations for algae analysis.Algae are identified to Genus level and the number of cells/ml calculated. The results are also grouped by type (Blue-green, Diatom, etc.) and if they are an indicator of pollution problems.This information is used in developing nutrient criteria and tracking trends
Ammonia Analytical results of bimonthly samples collected from 31 locations on the Ohio River and its tributaries. In addition to the routine set of parameters collected bimonthly, quarterly analyses for eight total metals are performed on a rotating basis among stations. Bacteria The Commission has two primary programs that generate bacteria data.
The Contact Recreation Bacteria Sampling Program collects weekly samples for E. coli and fecal coliform analysis from May through October. These samples are collected in the largest combined sewer overflow (CSO) communities along the Ohio River - Pittsburgh, Wheeling, Huntington, Cincinnati, Louisville, and Evansville.
The Ohio River Watershed Pollutant Reduction Program has completed several longitudinal bacteria surveys on the Ohio River. These surveys involve collecting samples for E. coli analysis approximately every five miles along the entire length of the Ohio River. Additional samples are also collected at the mouths of over 125 direct tributaries to the Ohio River.

Chlorophyll Samples are collected twice per month (March-November) from seven locations for chlorophyllanalysis. This data is used in developing nutrient criteria
Clean Metals Current Clean Metals Data - Metal Data from the Ohio River.
Cyanide Analytical results of bimonthly samples collected from 31 locations on the Ohio River and its tributaries. In addition to the routine set of parameters collected bimonthly, quarterly analyses for eight total metals are performed on a rotating basis among stations. ORSANCO adopted dual criteria for several inorganic toxicants to protect against chronic (long term) and acute (short term) toxicity to aquatic life. Cyanide analyses are only conducted at eight of the upper-river sites during the months of January, March and November. During the warmer months cyanide quickly decompeses into ammonia and carbon dioxide and is rarely detected, and as such, is only analyzed during winter months.
Dioxin ORSANCO has conducted extensive multimedia sampling for dioxin through the Ohio River Watershed Pollutant Reduction Program. Levels of dioxin in ambient water and bottom sediments have been quantified at numerous sites along the Ohio River and its tributaries. Concentrations of dioxin in ambient air have also been monitored at 20 locations near the Ohio River.
Dissolved Oxygen ORSANCO monitors dissolved oxygen conditions at 13 Ohio River locations. From May through October, ORSANCO receives dissolved oxygen (DO) data, transmitted from electronic monitors at 13 navigational dams operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or hydropower plants.
Fish Population An Access Database of all fish community information collected by ORSANCO from the main stem of the Ohio River as well as some major tributaries. Lockchamber rotenone, electrofishing, and trawling data are all included dating back to 1957. (Electrofishing is an active sampling method for obtaining a qualitative and quantitative sample of fish populations using electricity.)
Fish Tissue Fish Tissue Access Database - ORSANCO collects fish and examines the tissue for the presence of certain chemicals that may be harmful when ingested by humans.
Flows Ohio River Flow and Velocity Forecasts
Macroinvertebrate Macroinvertebrates Access Database - ORSANCO uses these small water-dwelling organisms as indicators of water quality; some require good, clean water to survive and reproduce.

Nutrients Nutrients and Algae Access Database - Collection of data on algal composition and abundance at multiple Ohio River locations so that status and trends can be tracked for water utility companies.
Organics Detection System Organics Detections System - The Organics Detection System is a cooperative effort involving water utilities and other major Ohio River water users to detect organic compounds in the river.
