RiverWatcher Honored at National Science Fair |
|
Robert Hinshaw, an ORSANCO RiverWatchers participant in Proctorville, Ohio, recently presented his research on pollution levels in the Ohio River and its tributaries at a national conference of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in San Diego, CA. Robby joined RiverWatchers in 1997 and has been collecting data for the past three years. He collects his samples from multiple sites in the Ohio River Watershed near Proctorville, OH, including the main stem Ohio River and other nearby creeks and streams. His research has focused on comparing pollution levels in the Ohio River to its smaller tributaries. Based on his overall water quality scores, Robby concluded that overall water quality in the Ohio River was higher than that of the tributaries he sampled. His award-winning work has won multiple awards at numerous science fairs at local, state, and national levels, including the Ohio Academey of Science and American Junior Academy of Science.
